Stanwick Lakes is a wonderful country park created on the site of a series of quarries in the Nene Valley. It is a significant staging place for thousands of migrating birds.
It is a brilliant place for kids, for walking and for wildlife, and it’s set to become even better.
The Lakes has received a grant from the New Gap Charitable Trust to support wildflower meadows and a butterfly bank.
The grant will fund the creation of new wildflower meadows, and the enhancement of existing meadows. Special effort will be made to increase the diversity of wildflowers.
Hopefully, the wider range of nectar sources will attract and support more butterflies. They are in decline nationally, and a new resource for them in the centre of the country is to be welcomed.
