The weekend of 8th to 10th May 2026, saw the 45th International Waendel Walk.
For walkers, the trail began and ended at the Castle Theatre in Wellingborough’s Town Centre.
Multiple routes were arranged, of differing lengths, to comply with the international standards.
It was the third time that the Walk had been organised by Wellingborough Town Council (WTC). It went very smoothly, and WTC are clearly very competent at running this celebrated international event. The Waendel Walk is in very safe hands!
The Walk is accredited to the International Marching League, the only Walk in England that is accredited.
There were walkers from a range of countries: Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Spain and others.
It was fascinating to watch walkers setting off with their national flags attached to their backpacks and waving above them.
A spokesman for Wellingborough Town Council said,
“What a fantastic walk! It showed off Wellingborough and the surrounding areas.”
“We had routes of various lengths suitable for everybody, including disabled people.”
“It was enjoyed by thousands.”
