Hind Hotel in Wellingborough Closes

We have a sad story to report. A director of the company operating the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough issued the following statement on 10th January 2026:

“It is with great sadness that we have had to close the Hind Hotel yesterday. After 8½ years of ownership, and with £1.3m spent on a massive external refurbishment (in partnership with Wellingborough Borough Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund – our company funding £350k), a £600k refurbishment of bedrooms and circulation space, and over £300k spent on modernising the ground floor public areas and replacing old equipment throughout the hotel. We took on a dilapidated building, with bedrooms stuck in a 1990s time warp and equipment throughout the hotel on the brink of collapse.”

“The director would like to thank the team for their dedication when faced with adversity such as the main refurbishment contractor going bust 3 months into the 24 month refurbishment, and their resilience in the wave of shocks such as covid and the current economic downturn.”

“The company has faced serious hardship with respect to rising costs, reduced town centre footfall and government policy often seemingly targeting the hospitality industry. Throw in increased regulation, rising national insurance and decreasing flexibility in the labour market and a currently stressed economic environment, and the director has been forced to concede that he can no longer continue financially supporting the business. He has never made one penny from the business and has dedicated thousands of hours unpaid to managing the company and the refurbishments. He feels privileged to have owned such a beautiful building for what has been too short a period of time.”

“With all that said, the hotel is physically in better shape than for 30 years or maybe longer. A new owner will be found who can reap the benefits of the hard work that has been put in – and who will no doubt put their own flourish and finishing touches to a 90% complete project. We have no doubt the hotel will re-open in the not too distant future and will once again be the centrepiece of the town.”

“All that remains is for us to thank the town for the patronage over the years, and to hope that when a new owner takes over you show them the love that we have felt over the last 8½ years.”
