Wheatsheaf Pub

The former Wheatsheaf pub sits at a gateway site in Rushden, next door to St. Mary’s Church.

The location is one of the few remaining examples of Rushden’s historic “high pavements”. (See the photograph.)

The pub has been closed for a number of years. At one point, an illegal cannabis farm was discovered in it.

The owner is now seeking to convert it into a “House-of-Multiple-Occupation”, with fifteen bedrooms. It gained planning consent for an HMO with 13 bedrooms in November 2025. The new application is seeking to remove some of the amenity space to make the 2 extra bedrooms.

This new application was considered by the Planning Consultative Committee of Rushden Town Council on Tuesday 3rd March (postponed from 24th February).

The members of the Committee voted to oppose the Application. It will now be considered by North Northants Council who will make the final decision.
