A touch of Hollywood magic came to Rushden last Saturday as Hall Park hosted its first-ever “A Night at the Movies.” Over 500 people gathered on the main lawn with picnic blankets and camping chairs to watch a special open-air screening of the classic film Paddington 2.
As the sun set, the park was filled with the gentle glow of the giant inflatable screen and the sound of laughter as families settled in for the show. The event, supported by Rushden Town Council, was designed to provide a free, memorable experience for the community at the end of the summer holidays. Local vendors were on hand selling popcorn, ice cream, and hot drinks, adding to the authentic cinema atmosphere.
“This is just brilliant,” said resident Mark Taylor, who attended with his two children. “We love coming to the park, but to be able to watch a film here under the stars is something special. The kids have been looking forward to it all week. It’s a fantastic idea, and we really hope it becomes a regular thing.”
Councillor Sarah Peacock, Chair of the Community Services Committee, was delighted with the turnout. “Events like this are what build strong communities,” she commented. “It’s wonderful to see so many people coming together to share a simple, joyful experience. Based on tonight’s success, we will certainly be looking to bring ‘A Night at the Movies’ back next year.”
