Sun, Scrums, and Smiles at Rushden & Higham RUFC’s Family Fun Day

Manor Park was a sea of red and black this past Sunday as Rushden & Higham RUFC hosted its annual Family Fun Day, a much-anticipated event that marks the start of the new rugby season. The day was a resounding success, with players, families, and community members coming together to celebrate their local club.

The highlight of the day was the mini-rugby tournament, which saw the club’s youth teams—from the under-6s to the under-14s—showcase their skills in a series of friendly matches. The sound of cheering parents and coaches echoed across the pitches, as the next generation of players demonstrated fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship.

Off the pitch, a bustling barbecue did a roaring trade, while a bouncy castle and face-painting station kept younger children entertained. A fundraising raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses, raised over £1,500 for new training equipment for the youth section.

Club Chairman, Bob Williams, was thrilled with the event. “This day is all about what our club stands for: family, community, and a love for the game,” he said. “We’re not just a collection of teams; we are a community hub. It’s fantastic to see so many people here, from our oldest life members to the newest four-year-olds just starting their rugby journey. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
