Annual Summer Fete Breaks Fundraising Record for Local Hospice in Day of Sunshine and Community Spirit

The sun shone brightly on Hall Park this past Saturday as the annual Rushden Summer Fete returned in spectacular fashion, proving once again to be a highlight of the town’s calendar. Hundreds of families enjoyed an afternoon of classic games, live music from local band ‘The Accelerants’, and delicious food from a host of local vendors, including homemade cakes and a sizzling barbecue run by the Rushden Scouts.

This year’s event, organized by a dedicated team of volunteers, was about more than just fun; it was about community spirit in action. An incredible £5,124 was raised for the Northamptonshire Community Hospice, a new record for the fete. The funds will go directly towards supporting the vital end-of-life care the hospice provides to families across the region.

Event coordinator Sarah Jones, who has led the volunteer team for three years, was visibly moved by the result. “We are absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of our community,” she said. “To see so many people come out, have a wonderful time, and give so freely is just heartwarming. Every penny will go towards supporting the incredible work the hospice does. A huge thank you to everyone who came, volunteered, or donated.”

The fete was a hive of activity. Children delighted in the coconut shy and hook-a-duck, while parents browsed stalls selling local crafts and produce. A representative from the hospice, David Carter, was also present. “It’s days like this that make our work possible,” he explained. “The community’s support is not just financial; it’s a powerful message to our patients and their families that they are not alone. We are immensely grateful to Sarah and her team.
