“Ask Your Councillor” Session a Resounding Success at Rushden Hall

Rushden Hall was buzzing with civic discussion last Thursday evening as it hosted the first “Ask Your Councillor” public forum. The event provided residents with a unique opportunity to speak directly with their elected town councillors in an informal setting, asking questions on a wide range of local issues.

The session was well-attended, with topics raised by the public including parking availability in the town centre, the maintenance of local parks, and plans for future community events. Councillors were on hand to provide updates, listen to concerns, and engage in constructive dialogue about the future of the town.

Mayor Gill Mercer praised the event’s positive and collaborative atmosphere. “Transparency and communication are at the heart of what we do,” she stated. “It is absolutely vital that residents feel they can approach us and have their voices heard. Tonight was a fantastic example of that. We’ve taken away some valuable feedback and have a number of new issues to look into.”

Resident Margaret Shaw, who attended to ask about recycling services, found the evening very useful. “It’s much better than just sending an email,” she said. “To be able to have a proper conversation and discuss things face-to-face makes a real difference. It was very well organised, and I’m glad I came.” The council has confirmed it plans to hold similar forums on a quarterly basis.
