On Thursday 21st May 2026, North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) appointed its first ever Honorary Aldermen and Honorary Alderwomen.
Six individuals who have served as councillors in the District, with distinction and honour, were appointed. The accompanying photograph shows them.
From left to right, they are:
- Tim Allebone, who served on the Borough Council of Wellingborough
- Tom Beattie, who was Leader of Corby Borough Council
- Ray Beeby, who served on Corby Borough Council
- Andrew Scarborough, who served on the Borough Council of Wellingborough
- Dudley Hughes, who served on East Northamptonshire Council and Northamptonshire County Council
- Sylvia Hughes, who served on East Northamptonshire Council and Northamptonshire County Council
(The figure on the extreme right, is Adele Wylie, the Chief Executive of NNC.)
To qualify as Honorary Aldermen or Alderwomen, these persons needed to have served a minimum of 12 years as a Councillor at one or more of:
- North Northamptonshire Council
- Corby Borough Council
- East Northamptonshire Council
- Kettering Borough Council
- The Borough Council of Wellingborough
- the part of Northamptonshire County Council which covered North Northamptonshire
They must also meet at least one of the following conditions:
- Holding senior political office with distinction and/or
- Having an exceptional record of community service and leadership.
All six candidates were approved by the Council.
