During the afternoon of Saturday 6th June 2026, a significant fire broke out in a bungalow in Northampton Road in Rushden. The building was completely destroyed.
The road was closed as firefighters fought the blaze. Heavy-duty hose pipes were laid from Shelley Drive along Northampton Road to give the fire crews enough water.
On Monday 8th June, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service stated that they believed that the fire was started deliberately, in other words, that it was arson.
