Higham Ferrers hosted a flower show on 30th May on the site of the ruined Chichele College.
The College was founded by Henry Chichele, who was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1414 to 1443. He was also the founder of All Souls’ College, Oxford.
The garden at Chichele College is usually open during daylight hours. The surviving college building is open during the summer
In most public gardens, there are signs saying, “Keep Off the Grass”.
Chichele is the exact opposite.
Their signs tell you to “Step on the Grass”. This is to protect what’s left of the ancient monument.
