Rushden has a new Mayor!
At Rushden Town Council’s Annual Meeting held on 13th May 2026, Cllr. Janet Pinnock was elected Mayor for the Civic Year 2026-2027.
This is the second time Cllr. Pinnock has been elected to this civic role. In her address to the Council, she said:
“I’m really looking forward to doing the town things which is what I’m here for, to listen to people and help people along the way.”
“My first task is to thank my fellow councillors for voting me in for mayor. We have a very strong community spirit in this town and organisations run by dedicated people.’
Cllr. Pinnock announced that Cllr. Barbara Jenney would be her Consort.
Cllr. Carol Childs was elected Deputy Mayor.
Cllr. Melanie Coleman was elected as Leader.
The outgoing Mayor, Cllr. Gill Mercer, thanked those who had helped her during her year, especially her Consort, Cllr. Andy Mercer, and Maureen Horsley,.who helped with her fundraising.
Gill raised over £5000 for her two local charities, Rush2theDen and the Rushden and District Community Charity.
