The Leyland industrial estate in Wellingborough is being expanded. 10 new units are being built to add to the existing 96 units.
Mike Grindrod, Director at Northern Trust Company Ltd, commented,
“We are delighted to see work commence on this next phase of development at Leyland Trading Estate. The strong uptake from our 2018 scheme confirmed the demand for modern, flexible industrial space in this area. This next phase reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in our estates and the communities around them, creating space where businesses can thrive and grow.”
It is to be hoped that these new units will provide more jobs for local people.
A ROARing Success
A few years ago, the Leyland Industrial Estate faced a major threat to its success. Network Rail decided to permanently close the nearby bridge over the railway line.
This effectively cut Leyland off from Wellingborough and left the Estate with its only road link being via the Irthlingborough Road. It would have been very hard to attract new businesses to locate to an Estate that had no link to the nearest Town.
However, Cllr. Gill Mercer was the local County Councillor at the time. She set up ROAR (See the poster.) The campaign was a ROARing success, and in April 2019, Network Rail caved in and agreed to reinstate the bridge.
